Green Energy

Green energy sources have an increasingly important role to play in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Many countries now have renewable energy targets and encourage businesses to exploit clean and renewable energy sources, through financial incentives and legislation.

Depending upon local definitions, coal mine methane and landfill methane projects may benefit from various clean energy policies. In Germany, for example, coal mine and landfill gases are legally classified as renewable energy sources. Local legislation favours their use, which helped Green Gas develop, build, operate and maintain more than 130 MW of electrical capacity from these sources in the Ruhr-area, by granting fixed feed-in tariffs. These guarantee prices or premiums for electricity produced from renewable sources.

Examples for Renewable Energy Regimes applied by Green Gas are:

Green Certificate Schemes in Belgium (currently applied for Green Gas plants in Vlierzele & Voorde)

Renewable Energy Sources Act (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz EEG) in Germany, applied for all operating German Green Gas plants
