Green Gas International B.V. (Green Gas) converts methane (CH₄) emissions from coal mines and landfill sites into clean energy and valuable carbon credits, as provided for under the Kyoto Protocol and international regulatory authorities.

We are a project developer offering an integrated and commercially attractive solution to mine and landfill owners for gas management and utilisation. Our solution includes gas collection, mine gas drainage, project management, operations and maintenance, carbon credits and finance.  We not only improve productivity and safety, but also eliminate harmful greenhouse gases and provide new, clean sources of electricity and heat.

We invest in our solutions with our customers  - sharing risk and leaving our customers free to focus on their mainstream business.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a leading player in the climate mitigation industry. We pursue this through working in partnership with coal mine and landfill site owners to improve their core business and to eliminate or exploit the harmful greenhouse gas emissions (e.g. Methane) that arise from their activities. 

Green Gas improves the core business of customers by improving safety and the productivity of coal mines, by improving gas capture in landfills and by bringing its expertise and focus to bear on the gas utilisation business which is often a non-core business for landfill and mine owners.  This focus allows the projects to operate at maximum profitability.

A wealth of experience

Green Gas offers a 50 year track record in climate mitigation.

In 2007 Green Gas International B.V. was created by a merger with OKD, DBP a.s. , an established Czech pioneer in coal mine methane management and use. It operates in one of the best known countries for coal mine safety, with a 130 km pipeline through which it distributes 65 million m³ methane gas per year to industrial customers.

At the end of 2006, Green Gas acquired the core assets of G.A.S. Energietechnologie (G.A.S.). G.A.S. is a leader in the construction and operation of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants to generate electricity from low quality methane sources in coal mines and landfill sites.

The acquisition of G.A.S. brought Hofstetter Umwelttechnik (Hofstetter) into our Group. Hofstetter is a global leader in the provision of advanced gas flaring technology. Together, Hofstetter and G.A.S. have a combined 50 year track record in climate mitigation.

Our operations cover more than 55 sites in eight different countries. They have a combined electrical power capacity of over 125 MW_el and an annual output of some 750 GWh of electricity. This is equivalent to the annual power requirement of 180,000 four-person households in Central Europe. As clean energy, this electricity also results in annual emission reductions equivalent to that of 750,000 cars.
